FanDuel Took 16.6M Super Bowl Bets, 19% Increase from 2024

Flutter Entertainment’s (NYSE: FLUT) FanDuel handled 16.6 million wagers during Super Bowl LIX, representing a 19% increase compared to last year.

FanDuel, the biggest online sportsbook in the US, observed that about three million active customers made 16.6 million bets on the major event. During its highest level of operation, the operator was processing 70K bets every minute. The economic impact of Super Bowl betting on Flutter’s first-quarter results was not discussed, but the general agreement is that the game resulted in a low-hold situation for operators due to the Philadelphia Eagles' victory and the total points exceeding 48.5. Video game companies preferred that the Kansas City Chiefs secure a victory in a game with few points scored.

"Fans predicted a high scoring game, with the majority picking the Over on the 48.5-point total ahead of kickoff,” according to FanDuel.

The final tally was Eagles 40 – Chiefs 22, indicating that the top exact score wagers on FanDuel didn’t pay off for gamblers. The scores were Chiefs 38 – Eagles 35, and Chiefs 27 – Eagles 24.

Investors Dismiss Super Bowl Results

The Super Bowl concludes a prolonged period of favorable NFL results for customers that sportsbooks have faced, and it seems the major game followed that pattern.

Investors appeared indifferent as Flutter finished slightly up on Monday, whereas DraftKings (NASDAQ: DKNG) gained 1.32%. Rush Street Interactive (NYSE: RSI) made a notable impression with a 2.41% increase on higher-than-normal volume to kick off the week.

Concerning Flutter’s financial outcome, there was a positive aspect in the shape of prop bets. On FanDuel, Eagles running back Saquon Barkley emerged as the top choice for MVP of the game based on total wagers and betting volume. He was the most heavily wagered anytime touchdown scorer, yet he achieved neither goal.

Mentioning Barkley, he was part of an eight-leg same-game parlay that enabled one FanDuel customer to transform $10 into a $7,612.63 reward.

Seems like 'Kick of Destiny 3' was successful

The Super Bowl ranks as one of the largest customer-acquisition events in the yearly US sports calendar, and FanDuel has capitalized on the major event through its “Kick of Destiny” advertisements. The third round of the campaign showcased Eli and Peyton Manning, ex-Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks and spokespersons for a competitor of FanDuel.

Eli, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants, triumphed in the field goal contest against his older brother, and many FanDuel customers favored that result.

“Almost two million fans made a pick on ‘Kick of Destiny 3’, with over one million picking Eli who each will receive $10 in Bonus Bets,” according to the gaming company.
