After an expletives-filled tantrum at the Aria in Las Vegas, poker legend Phil Hellmuth stormed off the set during the production of an episode of Poker Go's "No Gamble, No Future."
“The Poker Brat” ripped off his microphone and threw it on the table after he felt he had been disrespected by his opponent, “Humboldt Mike.”
Though Hellmuth is the world's greatest World Series bracelet winner with 17, his legendary emotional outbursts are something else entirely. Even though the 60-year-old has matured recently—he used to boast that he could "dodge bullets, baby"—last week's explosion might go down as a historic one.
The whole thing began last week when Hellmuth was eliminated by Mike in the $200/$400 No-Limit Hold'em cash game. However, problems had been building for some time. Hellmuth had earlier fallen short against Ryan Feldman's pocket queens in a coinflip with A-K.
“F–ing morons running like this against me, it’s unbelievable,” he seethed.
After waking up with A-Q and facing multiple straddles along with a raise to $9,000 from Mike, Hellmuth went all in for his remaining $24K. He was in a flip again when Mike flipped over pocket jacks.
When an ace showed up in the window, Hellmuth's situation seemed to be improving, but it didn't when a jack struck the river.
“Start the car baby, let’s go!” sang Mike dancing a jig around his chair.
But it was his next comment that truly triggered Hellmuth
“Phil, I’ve got an address if you need to send some [money],” Mike said, as the dealer counted out the chips.
Cue meltdown: “Buddy, I told you, alright, you want me to quit? Alright I’m going to f–ing quit. I can’t play with you anymore. You’re such an a–hole, man,” spat Hellmuth.
"I don’t mind losing the flip, I really don’t,” he continued. “But come on, I asked you not to do that s–t. You have been more out of line to me than any other person. No, you’ve been more out of line to me than any other person has been to me in a year and a half. F–k you, man. I don’t know who you f–ing are, but I’m never going to film with you again.”
It's amazing, even for a Hellmuth blowup. Given the viral potential of the Poker Brat's meltdowns, PokerGo is undoubtedly the true winner in this situation. On YouTube, this one has already received half a million views.
